Kiss in the Dark

Music and Lyrics by David Love
Written in 1989 recorded in 1990

You think you know who I am,
Your so naive, you've got to open your eyes to see,
I’ve seen worlds falling down,
But only at night when you,
Feel my body you’ll know

Needles to skin like a poison dart,
Kiss in the dark
My kiss will leave a fatal mark,
Kiss in the dark
Don't put a stake through my heart

I watch you when you sleep,
I’ll be there, living in your dreams,
My life may seem sad, maybe mean,
But I'm poor as a peddler, livin' in the street

Needles to skin like a poison dart,
Kiss in the dark
My kiss will leave a fatal mark
Kiss in the dark
Don't put a stake through my heart

I may live forever,
But you’ll always be the victim for me,
And you’ll know,
Sidewalk pictures of you,
In the tears of a lonely vampire,

Kiss in the dark
My kiss will leave a fatal mark,
Kiss in the dark
Don't put a stake through my heart
Kiss in the dark
My kiss will leave a fatal mark
Don't put a stake through my heart.

When new songs were written, many times the band would try them out at the Whisky No Bozo Jam. This started out as a free admission (later $3.00 per person) show on Monday nights hosted by Sam Mann (Of Sam Mann and Thee Apes). Up to 15 bands would perform on house equipment and play 3 - 4 song short sets. The club was always crowded and this was a great way to showcase the band to new potential fans. This really helped the band out getting more shows as KA (From advice given by Sam) would call the Whisky and talk to Louie the Lip to see if there were any cancellations every Monday. The Lypswitch motto of "We will play Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere" really came into play with these calls. "I'd say 8 out of 10 times I would call and get a slot and we would head down to play. We didn't care if it was at 8pm or 1am, we would be there.. Eventually it got to the point that the Whisky would call us because they knew we would show up on a moments notice. This really helped us get the name out there and led to us getting even better shows at the Whisky" - KA.

There was one bass drum beat that was missed by KA in the second verse that went un-noticed when the original demo was recorded in 1990. This drove KA nuts for 28 years when ever listening to the song. "During the remastering of the song I brought this up to Mick (who had not noticed either) and via the magic of digital recording he was able to fix it." - KA

"Lypswitch did their fare share of selling out their headlining gig at the Whisky. They also introduced a new groove with Kiss in the Dark offering proof David Love is turning into a vampire."
